[问题]Why I can't enter Chinese?

At first,when I installed Ubuntu,I could enter Chinese.But now,my Ubuntu does not have Chinese entering support.
Before this,I changed the settings LANGUAGE SUPPORT-DEFAULT LANGUAGE from CHINESE(CHINA) to ENGLISH(UNITED KINGDOM).And LANGUAGE SUPPORT-INPUT METHOD-Enable support to enter complex characters was turned on.
What I should do to enter Chinese?
And my Ubuntu version is 7.10.
