I want to buy a laptop in China and I want to make sure I can change the BIOS setting to english so I can use Ubuntu on it.

The default should be English,I did not buy a computer or motherboard in recent years,but in the past(about 3 years ago),the default is English, though it support Chinese

You must have solved the issue.
If not, in normal case there is always a language setting entry in BIOS, you just need someone nearby to help to you switch the language.

@onlylove, his BIOS should be referring to UEFI which has Chinese as the default language in many SKUs.
