超级简约的桌面(openbox+rox或openbox+pcmanfm)

I dislike *box kind. My booting memory occupation is 110M and I removed scim. Including everything, composite, awn, wm and conky, it's around 130M. Any suggestions?

有一些区别的，那些box的桌面比xface要瘦上许多，如果控制好的话。使用rox接管桌面+openbox作为窗口管理器一共用了大约44M内存，你可以看看用这儿还用rox在后台起来一个mplayer。还有就是box的配置特定窗口的行为比较简单，比如设置mplayer无边框，vim打开时候最大化。xface的感觉很像gentoo下面编个精简的gnome的感觉。

而且现在看看rox结果桌面之后下面是不是还有打开窗口列表，就是下方的图标。
不知道你的机子什么样子的。我自己的笔记本上我还是喜欢KDE，我对这些东西的要求很简单，只要可以流畅的使用就行了。你可以尝试下这种配置的速度。确实很快

我现在只用了xfce4里面的xfwm4,因为它的compositor是一种比较好的选择（awn需要composited screen)，然后就是awn，我甚至没有用桌面管理器，只有awn和xfwm4在进程里

bash-3.2#如果arch和gentoo性能差别较大的话，可能要考虑移步gentoo, 另外gentoo的wiki文档也比较丰富
轻装上阵，处理速度感觉比以前快了，不过我的桌面现在没有了背景

是啊
我个人喜欢gentoo（可能是因为我没有用过arch），可是我觉得arch的wiki也相当不错的。甚至我看到一些gentoo和arch的wiki之间互相引用的
其实我是有用的就好。我这个装ubuntu就是手头上只有一张ubuntu的官方盘，而且Gentoo盘一时不知道是那张。
此外，其实性能不是大问题。我也差不多把ubuntu不用的卸的差不多了。
我的机子是我用大约7年前买的硬件装的，现在这个组合还是很快。除了比如firefox，打开扫描的pdf电子书这样子可能把内存吃完的应用除外~
关键是有些时候还是Gentoo方便些，比如新的pulseaudio出来了，现在可以一个配置直接在xdg里面去起，
可是ubuntu的包却没有。还有vim7.2之类的。

可是内存确实不足，比如你打开100M的那种扫描电子书。
word占内存的解决方法我就是在gentoo上面看的：

我在编译大包，比如libtools , gcc的时候频繁出segments fault错误，不知道是os哪方面的问题，怀疑是内存晶片的问题（后来加的1G现代内存）

好了，都通过了，彻底update world
不知道是什么原因，非常奇怪，每次--sync一下，然后重启就好了

我原来以为是系统太热，容易出故障，不过好像不是这个问题

查了一下wiki，intel好像很变态，x86架构后来的机器基本都支持P6架构，但是为什么唯独Pentium4不在其列？

原来p4是所谓的p7架构，单核与双核的试验品，intel在其上试验超线程hyperthreading模拟多处理器以将来更好的应用于双核。但是Pentium4以后的双核intel core又换回去支持p6架构，也就是所谓i686, 这个正是我选择的编译架构！这个发行版在p4上倒是相当的快，但是一遇到编译的时候就问题频出。

先是 busybox+rox
后来是 busybox+pcmanfm+fbpanel(这个准备给朋友用),比较简单,可是内存使用上要用80多M.效果如下:
试验了下,感觉mplayer不要边框,所有程序不需要放在taskbar,因为鼠标中键+自定义按键负责切换就行了
