唉！输入法又坏了！

我原来使用ibus智能拼音，在launchpad上提意见，得到冷嘲热讽。

"Launchpad" 应该是 "GitHub" 之误，这个不是 Ubuntu 的计划。

我们这个论坛有一位资深的坛友 “男菜鸟” 有一次热心的要把他多年使用 ibus-pinyin 累积下来的词库贡献到 ibus-libpinyin，结果被一句话就支走了，用的词非常不客气。

ibus-pinyin 的 database 是直截了当的 sqlite，ibus-libpinyin 就复杂多了（除非直接到内码找，完全没有资料）。这也是 后者 会崩溃的主要原因。

所以这么对待用户的开发，我们为啥要买账，你开发你的，我们不用就是了，让那群自以为是的开发自娱自乐去，活该linux环境没好用的中文输入法，国内用户为什么喜欢用搜狗，不就是因为词库么（毕竟二等公民，人对你冷嘲热讽，你还得往前凑，把那群开发惯的，要是国内，早死了几百遍了）

4. Disable bionic-proposed

* Open Software & Updates and select the "Developer Options" tab.

* Uncheck the "Pre-released updates" option.

5. Update the package information on your system
------------------------------------------------

sudo apt update


With that your system is back to normal, except for those three packages from -proposed. You can confirm that you got the right versions by using this command:

dpkg-query -W ibus-libpinyin libpinyin-data libpinyin13

It should show this info:

ibus-libpinyin 1.11.0-1ubuntu0.18.04.1
libpinyin-data:amd64 2.2.2-1~ubuntu18.04.1
libpinyin13:amd64 2.2.2-1~ubuntu18.04.1


Then I simply ask you to use "Intelligent Pinyin" for your daily needs, and submit a comment here after a few days about your experience. Any kinds of comments are helpful, both "works well" and info about issues you stumble upon. Most important, of course, is that no new issues are introduced via this upgrade.

I have been hearing this swan song for several years now that ibus-pinyin is being or has been deprecated. Actually it is a miracle that ibus-pinyin still works in Ubuntu--and only in Ubuntu. For unknown and very strange reasons, I can never make ibus-pinyin work in Fedora, or even in Debian. Indeed, this is the main reason that I am sticking with Ubuntu, even though I was one of the very first supporters of the Fedora Linux when it was being developed at the University of Hawaii.

Most Linux users in the Chinese Ubuntu forum actually use Sogou pinyin (搜狗拼音）, this is a proprietary program running on the fcitx input framework. Sogou pinyin is definitely better than ibus-libpinyin (very few people actually use ibus-libpinyin), but is inferior to ibus-pinyin in terms of speed and stability. We have a pro bono project in Honolulu teaching seniors to be proficient in computers. Since many of our students are of Chinese descent, our program also includes teaching them how to input Chinese characters. Ibus-pinyin has been our choice of Chinese input tool because of its snappiness and being trouble-free. You would think that these two characters should also make ibus-pinyin a favorable Chinese input engine? But since so few people in China are using Linux desktops, logic doesn't make sense. It is the so-called upstream developers (mainly Peng Wu of Red Hat), or the lack thereof (ibus-pinyin developers), that prevails.

Based on my interactions with many Chinese Ubuntu forum elders, I am NOT surprised that the upstream developers do not think highly of ibus-pinyin. The reasons are three-fold: first, they are not using the right distro (i.e., not using Ubuntu); second, they did not install a Ubuntu-specific ibus-pinyin database (i.e., system-wide vocabulary); and third, they have not used ibus-pinyin long enough (i.e., they do not have their own user vocabulary).

I think upstream developers do not like ibus-pinyin also because it does not have many bells and whistles (e.g., inputting emojis which I absolutely could care less). But ibus-pinyin also has some of the critical features that are lacking in ibus-libpinyin. For example, the latter cannot conveniently input special symbols (many in the Chinese Ubuntu forum think this a main reason not to use ibus-libpinyin). Also, ibus-libpinyin will treat a decimal point as a Chinese period, such as 19。04 (which should be 19.04）. But most important AFAIC, ibus-pinyin uses a simple, straightforward sqlite database structure that is very easy to comprehend. How the table-lookup database is structured in ibus-libpinyin is complicated and undocumented.

Many members of the Chinese Ubuntu forum have a very negative attitude towards ibus-libpinyin partly because of the personality of its principal developer Peng Wu. They have always complained about being contemptuously snobbed when they visited the ibus-libpinyin GitHub forum (many were told to switch to Fedora). I myself also could never get a straight answer from Peng Wu.

I sincerely hope that your effort to make ibus-libpinyin stable ("stable" in an absolute sense) will help attracting more users--ibus-libpinyin in specific and Ubuntu in general. I will definitely use it at least occasionally to make sure that everything is OK. Should Ubuntu powers-that-be make an unfortunate decision and drop ibus-pinyin from its archive, I will simply freeze my version of Ubuntu at 18.04, which is now turning out to be exceptionally good.

个体户用什么输入法，自己爽就好了。不过如果在较有制度的公司做事的话，像我们就绝对不会让使用者乱动系统，基本上没有选择自己习惯输入法的自由。目前几个较为企业界接受的中文输入法就只有 ibus-libpinyin。如我前面提到的，最少对我个人而言，不管满不满意，总要帮忙让它好用一点。

Ubuntu 开发团队现在特别关心的是 ibus-libpinyin 的稳定度，这需要多一点人在不同的输入习惯下长期的使用，才能发现是否还会出现 ”不预期崩溃“ 这个问题。其他的，可以等以后再讨论。

还有，以前总是我跪求 Ubuntu 解决 ibus-libpinyin 不稳定的问题，现在则是他们焦急了，有时候一天会收到不同人寄来的 email，葫芦里不知卖什么药？ 我使用中文的机会很少，而且习惯 ibus-pinyin 很好用。如果其他有需要使用中文的人非得等到搜狗/fcitx 出了问题，才来叫天不应，叫地不灵，其实这也不关我的事。

同意！ 越简单的程序越不会有问题。

终端下不显示光标的问题，转到 Wayland 再重新开机就没事了（或则转用 konsole）。

ibus-pinyin 已被 deprecated （放弃）了，因此在 19.04/19.10 里词频动态无法调整。Ubuntu 20.04 后，ibus-pinyin 更会从套件库里消失。

我个人觉得 Ubuntu 18.04，经过一年多的折磨，配合 ibus-pinyin 非常好用。非常希望 Linux 桌面的使用者能多花一点时间在 Ubuntu 18.04 + ibus-pinyin 上。 Ubuntu 18.04 的保固期已被延长到2028，比较重要的应用套件，如 LibreOffice，GIMP 等，可以用 ppa 或 snap 方式升级。Ubuntu 系统本身其实停在 18.04 LTS 版本就好了！

Again，非常希望有多一点的坛友把我们有限的资源放在 （Ubuntu 18.04 LTS + ibus-pinyin）上。人数够多了，我们讲的话 Canonical 才会听。如果 Canonical 不愿意维护 ibus-pinyin，只要有足够使用者，我也会想办法自己维护。

我平时使用的是19.04，而不是18.04。安装的有一个18.04不过是xubuntu。
我不太明白，即便libus-pinyin被放弃，为何不继续保留词频调整功能，而要把这个功能屏蔽掉呢？

我的工作台机（Ryzen 7, RX 580, 16GB DDR）里有 Windows 10 + 5个 Linux 分割区 （各 20～30GB）+ 资料分享区 （ext4，～1TB，软链接到家目录）。99%以上的时间使用 Ubuntu 18.04，其它的 Linux 分割区包括一个可瞬时开机的 18.04 备份，以及 19.04 跟 19.10。偶尔有点空档时可以从 GRUB 重新开机到另一个系统玩玩，根本不必花任何时间，也不占资源，但对整个 Linux 桌面的开发，以及对开发人员的鼓励，觉得最少尽了一份力量。

你说的坛友指谁啊？这边来来回回就那么几个常在的，还有不少用fcitx的，然后你还一心扑在ibus上
