I'm also from CUHK, and trying to connect VPN in Ubuntu. It seems that I've got no error message, but I can't connect to any web pages, nor cuhk newsgroup. I've tried using the "Ping" function in pptpconfig, all packets are lost. Here is my connection message:
Is it related to the "Cannot determine ethernet address for proxy ARP" ? I've tried to google for this message, but can't find useful information.
Also, my Ubuntu connect to internet through router, is there anything to do with the router?
But other PC in my home (which runs WinXP) can connect to VPN without editing router settings. I've a WinXP in VM Server in the Ubuntu (using NAT virtial ethernet), it can also connect to VPN.
Any thought?Using interface ppp0pptpconfig: monitoring interface ppp0
Connect: ppp0 <--> /dev/pts/1
PAP authentication succeeded

Strange...
Sometime I success by editing values in options.pptp, pptpd-options or option value in pptpconfig, or reinstalling the components. But everytime after I've sucess, if I stop the VPN, shutdown pptpconfig and try again, it fails....
Is there any time intervals which I should make a VPN connection?
